šŸ†Featured AI Leader: Poorva RanešŸ†

Weā€™re excited to present Poorva Rane as a Featured AI Leader.

Letā€™s get to know how Poorva is using AI.

1. How is AI impacting your work?

AI is at the core of my work as a Senior Research Engineer at DeepMind, where I focus on developing and deploying generative AI models that are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in content creation.

These models, like Veo for video generation and Imagen 3 for image generation, are transforming how users interact with and create digital content. AI enables me to tackle complex challenges, from creating lifelike videos and images from text descriptions to optimizing these models for scalability and real-world applications.

The impact of AI on my work is profound, as it allows me to contribute to innovations that are reshaping industries and enhancing user experiences on a global scale.

2. How do you use AI in your daily life?

AI is deeply integrated into my daily life, both professionally and personally. At work, I use AI-driven tools and platforms for analyzing data, model training, and deployment processes.

These tools help streamline my workflow, enabling faster experimentation and more efficient iteration on complex models. Outside of work, AI enhances my daily routine through personalized recommendations, voice-activated assistants, and smart home devices that make everyday tasks more convenient.

From recommending new research papers to optimizing my schedule, AI has become an indispensable part of how I navigate both my professional and personal life.

3. What is your favorite AI tool right now?Ā

My favorite AI tool right now is Google Cloud Vertex AI. Itā€™s an incredibly powerful platform that allows for the seamless deployment and scaling of machine learning models.

The integration of advanced AI capabilities, like those from Imagen 3, into Google Cloud Vertex AI has made it easier to bring cutting-edge generative models to life in various applications. Its user-friendly interface and robust features make it a go-to tool for not only deploying models but also for managing the entire machine learning lifecycleā€”from data preparation to model monitoring.

Itā€™s been instrumental in taking the work we do at DeepMind and making it accessible to businesses and developers across the globe.

4. What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with AI?

For anyone just getting started with AI, my advice is simple: take the first step. Start with an area that genuinely interests you, whether itā€™s through an online course, a small project, or simply reading up on the latest developments.

The field of AI is vast and can seem overwhelming, but you donā€™t need to know everything right away. Focus on building a strong foundation and let your curiosity guide you. Surround yourself with a supportive community, ask questions, and donā€™t be afraid to make mistakesā€”theyā€™re a critical part of the learning process.

Most importantly, remember that AI is a field driven by innovation and creativity. Your unique perspective is valuable, and the possibilities are endless once you take that first step.

5. How can women in AI support each other?

Women in AI can support each other by building strong, inclusive communities where knowledge and experiences are shared openly. Mentorship is crucialā€”experienced women in AI should actively mentor those who are just entering the field, offering guidance and encouragement.

Collaboration over competition is key; by working together and celebrating each otherā€™s successes, we can create a network of support that empowers all women in AI to thrive. Additionally, advocating for diversity and inclusion in AI is essential to ensuring that our voices are heard and that we continue to drive meaningful change in the industry.
