1. How is AI impacting your work?

AI has profoundly impacted my work as a Senior Data Scientist, particularly in the realm of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Statistical Modeling. At Fitch Ratings, a global leader in financial information services, where I am part of the Emerging Technology group, AI enables us to extract meaningful insights from vast amounts of financial data, enhancing our ability to make deliver smart, efficient and innovative solutions for both our internal and external clients.

As an avid NLP researcher, I leverage state-of-the-art open-source models to develop business critical products that not only delivers value in terms of ROI, but also make people's life easier in extracting value quicker from these AI products. Moreover, AI has played a pivotal role in my advocacy efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.

Through leading NLP workshops with organizations like Women Who Code and GitNation, as well as speaking engagements at prestigious conferences such as the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) and WomenTech Global Conference, I showcase how AI can be a catalyst for positive change. As an ambassador for Women in Data Science at Stanford University and a mentor for Girl Up, United Nations Foundation, and WomenTech Network, I use AI as a tool to inspire and empower more women to pursue careers in STEM fields, thereby harnessing the transformative power of technology to drive social impact.

2. How do you use AI in your daily life?

In my daily life as a Senior Data Scientist - Manager, Emerging Technology, AI is the center of it all. It serves as an indispensable tool that empowers me to build solutions using Generative AI toolkits like Langchain, LlamaIndex to build powerful products. Emerging Technology group is at the forefront of all cutting edge technological innovation and leverages state-of-the-art AI techniques to build products and solutions for our customers.

Beyond my professional endeavors, AI continues to play a significant role in my advocacy efforts and community engagements. From leading NLP workshops to speaking at renowned conferences, I utilize AI as a means to inspire and empower others, particularly women, to pursue careers in STEM fields. Through mentorship and outreach activities, I leverage AI as a catalyst for positive change, driving diversity and inclusion within the tech industry and fostering a more equitable future for all.

3. What is your favorite AI tool right now?

It has got to be Github CoPilot. Helps me focus on building actual complex logic rather than worrying about syntax errors.

4. What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with AI?

Observe the playing field, but don't be intimidated by the vastness of it. Learn and chose a path of your speciality and work towards it. Iterate fast and learn when to stop, when a project/solution is no longer viable or would add any value. Be BFF's with data. There is no AI without data.

6. How can women in AI support each other? Two most important ways to support women in tech: 1. Being a Mentor: Experienced women leaders in AI can guide and advise those starting their careers or transitioning into AI roles. Mentors can provide valuable feedback, industry know-how, and help navigate challenges. 2. Join a Professional Network: Joining or creating professional networks like Women in AI, WomenTechNetwork allows women to connect with like-minded individuals, share experiences, and support each other's tech careers.
